The old saying “March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb,” is how it seems to be this March here at Crossroads (see photo above).
In August, Crossroads stopped offering academic classes, but the campus itself has still been in operation. As Rochester’s rental prices skyrocket, Crossroads has been able to offer affordable Christian housing to students attending the surrounding colleges, graduates and employees of Minnesota Adult and Teen Challenge, families looking to get back on their feet, and Alumni. Crossroads has become a safe, peaceful, and diverse Christian community.
Crossroads has also become a home to a nonprofit group, Words Players Theater. Executive director and fellow believer, Kathy Kuhlmann said, “the outdoors space is a big draw for us with the way we perform outside.” Words Players is a fun program for kids and teens that need an active and creative outlet. This past weekend they had their first on campus performance, ‘A Winter Wonderland’ in the Heritage Student Center. The Lord even provided a winter wonderland outside for them as Rochester got ten inches of snow that weekend!
Lastly, an alumnus, Patrick Porras is co-pastoring, along with Dan Brue, a church plant called Encounter. Encounter church has landed at Crossroads, and now holds service on Sunday mornings. “We want to see people have life-changing Encounters with God, resulting in knowing Jesus and experiencing His love, purpose and power.” Encounter also has been helping to build community among the residents living here at Crossroads by providing a monthly game night.
What an amazing God we have. He continues to bring life to Crossroads in ways that we could never have planned. As Christians, we don’t ever have to spend our time worrying about tomorrow when we have trusted God with our lives. His plans are far better than our own! Our lives never have to be ordinary because we serve a God who can create a whole world by simply speaking it into being. Never forget the power of our God. Take a moment and meditate on the fact that this powerful and amazing God loves us just as much as He loves His son Jesus (John 17:23)! Be encouraged and take some time to encourage others with this good news!
Thank you so much for all of your continued support and prayers for Crossroads! Because of your faithfulness in giving, we are still able to impact the world for Christ and fulfill our mission to ‘strengthen churches and enrich the community.’
Although classes are not being offered for the 2016/17 academic year, we are re-engineering to have academic programs offered in a sustainable business model. Discussions are continuing with Hope International University and Milligan College. Both schools have received their respective boards’ approval, to bring programs to the Crossroads Campus in 2017.
As this vision is being created and nurtured we ask for your continued prayers. As the Word says, “the prayer of a righteous man or women is powerful and effective (James 5:16).” Please pray for direction, favor, and the finances we need to move forward. The Board of Trustees continues their commitment to move forward with Christian Higher Education in our region. We will keep you updated on the future plans of Crossroads College in the months ahead.
